About our Work Experience Program

The Bass Coast Health Work Experience Program provides secondary students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and learning opportunities within the public health sectorThis program is open to Year 10, 11 and 12 students who, as a part of their school curriculum, are required to undertake work experience for a period of one week (5 consecutive working days, Monday – Friday). Students are placed within various departments (listed below) to observe and learn from their supervisors. The work experience program is planned and implemented to ensure a coordinated approach across departments with consideration shown to both service delivery requirements, availability and capacity of employees to supervise the placement and the learning objectives of the student.

During work experience, students are able to participate in a range of activities as appropriate according to the BCH Work Experience Policy - please note the following statement in regard to healthcare consumers “Students should only be given enough basic information to appreciate the task at hand, with their main observation being of the health professional at work, rather than a patient or client’s condition.”
