Dr Matthew Gutman

After completing basic physicians training, including the fellowship exam, Matthew decided to embark on a path of neurosurgery and undertook training through the Royal Australian of College of Surgeons (RACS) program.

After completing his fellowship in neurosurgery, Matthew undertook further training in flexible endoscopy at the CURE hydrocephalus hospital in Mbale, Uganda.

He then moved to the United Kingdom to undertake fellowships in functional neurosurgery at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen’s Square) and Cambridge University Hospital (Addenbrooke’s) to refine his skills in complex neurovascular disorders and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Receiving the Lena Elizabeth McEwan and Dame Joyce Daws Churchill Fellowship enabled Matthew to undertake further training in neuromodulation and lesioning in the USA.

Matthew is the head of epilepsy surgery at The Alfred Hospital, and works as a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon at the Austin and Cabrini hospitals.

He practises all aspects of neurosurgery and spine surgery, and has a specific interest in brain mapping for brain tumours and epilepsy, spinal disorders and neurovascular surgery.

At Bass Coast Health, Matthew provides consulting services only and operates at other health services.
