Dr Matthew Gutman

Dr Matthew Gutman is a Neurosurgeon practising in Victoria. After completing basic physicians training, including the fellowship exam, he embarked on a path of neurosurgery and undertook training through the Royal Australian of College of Surgeons (RACS) program.

After completing his fellowship in neurosurgery, Dr Gutman undertook further training in flexible endoscopy at the CURE hydrocephalus hospital in Mbale, Uganda before moving to the United Kingdom. There he undertook fellowships in functional neurosurgery at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen’s Square) and Cambridge University Hospital (Addenbrooke’s) to refine his skills in complex neurovascular disorders and minimally invasive spine.

Dr Gutman was the recipient of the Lena Elizabeth McEwan and Dame Joyce Daws Churchill Fellowship, which led to him undertaking further training in neuromodulation and lesioning in various centres in the USA.

Dr Gutman is the Head of Epilepsy Surgery at the Alfred Hospital, and works as a Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon at the Austin and Cabrini Hospitals.

He has a specific interest in brain mapping for brain tumours and epilepsy, spinal disorders and neurovascular surgery.

Dr Gutman been consulting from the Casey and Bass Coast areas for many years, and now provides consulting and outpatient services to the Bass Coast community.
