Surgeon with international experience leads surgery at Bass Coast Health

News

Bass Coast Health (BCH) continues to bring more medical expertise onboard to provide the community with greater levels of care, close to home.

The public healthcare service has welcomed new Clinical Director of Surgery, Dr Senthilkumar (Kumar) Sundaramurthy, an experienced surgeon who will provide governance of our surgical services to ensure patient safety.

He studied medicine in India and completed surgical training in Scotland, before doing further training at Monash Health in Melbourne.

Kumar has been a General Surgeon at Monash and Peninsula Health, and is particularly interested in advanced laparoscopic surgery, endoscopy, and hernia and gallbladder surgery.

He is attracted to BCH because he grew up in rural India, and is keen to be able to serve and be part of a fantastic growing community.

“Everyone at BCH has been so friendly and approachable, and they’re very keen to help. I don’t feel like I’m in a strange place. I feel like I’m at home,” he said.

“The new Theatre facilities at Wonthaggi Hospital are second to none and modern in comparison to city hospitals and across Australia.”

Kumar is looking forward to growing surgical capacity at BCH to make sure more people can get their surgery locally.

His arrival comes soon after BCH began offering more surgery to patients in our community. Our Surgical teams are now performing shoulder replacements and endoscopic oesophageal stents in the new, state-of-the-art Theatres at Wonthaggi.

BCH offers consultations with many medical specialists at Wonthaggi Hospital and the Phillip Island Health Hub, and provides an extensive range of surgery at Wonthaggi. To learn more, see www.basscoasthealth.org.au/specialists/search
