Bass Coast Health’s (BCH) residential care teams are focused on ensuring residents’ needs come first.
BCH has two aged care facilities. Kirrak House is located in Wonthaggi next to Wonthaggi Hospital and offers 30 beds. Griffiths Point Lodge at San Remo overlooks the sea and Cape Woolamai, and has 29 beds.
All residential aged care services are accredited against the Aged Care Quality Standards by the Aged Care Quality & Safety Commission. The BCH team forms close bonds with our residents’ families to ensure they are kept informed every step of the way.
“Our aged care facilities are staffed by a team of professional skilled staff, dedicated to the care of each individual care recipient. The teams are led by the Nurse Unit Manager and comprise nursing staff, diversional therapists, cleaning and catering staff,” BCH CEO Jan Child said.
“All staff are committed to ensuring the recognition of the uniqueness of our residents and that residents’ self-esteem, privacy and freedom of choice are valued.
“Our philosophy is to enable all care recipients to live their life with dignity and comfort whilst encouraging them to pursue their own concept of a happy, rich and fulfilling life. We also encourage family support and interaction.”
Residents of Griffiths Point Lodge are enjoying renovated rooms, as part of a $1 million project that will partially renovate inside the facility. One wing has been transformed so far, including the hallway and eight bedrooms, as part of a five-stage refurbishment works program that will see more rooms refurbished as time progresses. A new nurse call bell system has also been installed in rooms, and all utility rooms such as linen, medication and dirty utility rooms will be refurbished during these works.
In 2022, Kirrak House passed its three yearly accreditation review by the Aged Care Quality & Safety Commission. The assessors found the home met all of the requirements set out in the eight Aged Care Quality & Safety Standards. The assessment team was impressed by how well staff knew residents and their needs, and the high level of care provided.
The interior of Kirrak House was refurbished in 2022, with new painting and flooring throughout, and a new nurse call system was installed. Residents enjoy a new edible garden and fruit trees that make Kirrak House feel even more like home.
