New dental equipment is now being used at Wonthaggi Hospital thanks to community support of the Bass Coast Health San Remo Opportunity Shop.
The Dental team at the Hospital was excited to receive new electrical handpieces that are state-of-the art and help the team to provide even better care to patients. The Bass Coast Health San Remo Opportunity Shop contributed $50,000 towards the purchase of the equipment.
Dental Manager KyShen Tang thanked the op shop volunteers for their significant donation.
“We are most grateful to the Op Shop volunteers for their tireless work in sorting and selling quality used goods in order to raise funds for Bass Coast Health. They have such a positive impact on our delivery of services to the community,” he said.
“In recent years, approximately half of our dental handpieces have been worn beyond repair or repairs have exceeded the cost beyond the value of a new handpiece.
“Now, we are fortunate to have the latest technology in electrical handpieces that are quieter, which is better for patient comfort. The electrical handpieces also provide more consistent power, which decreases the risk of injury for the dental clinicians using the equipment.”
Bass Coast Health Dental Clinic relies on handpieces to provide essential restorative care such as fillings, root canal, emergency treatment, denture maintenance and surgical extractions.
Bass Coast Health San Remo Opportunity Shop President Sara Fleisner said the Auxiliary members were proud to donate funds to the dental service at BCH.
“We believe dental health is an important part of community health. Our shop volunteers thoroughly enjoy their work but the fact that money raised goes towards improving health services for us all makes it really worthwhile,” she said.
