Health leaders from across the region toured the Wonthaggi Hospital Expansion (WHE) during their recent sub-regional governance meeting at the hospital.

Bass Coast Health (BCH) was pleased to host the South Gippsland Coast Partnership Governance Committee that consists of Board Chairs, Community Representatives and Chief Executive Officers from Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Gippsland Southern Health Service, South Gippsland Hospital and Bass Coast Health.

This Committee has been meeting for many years to progress local partnership priorities and after last week’s meeting, they toured the new hospital and were very excited to see the service environment the WHE will provide for the sub-region.

South Gippsland Coast Partnership Governance Committee Chair, Sue Pilkington, who is also the Board Chair of South Gippsland Hospital at Foster, said the WHE was simply “fantastic”.

“The time and effort that have been put into planning the design, build and fit-out is obvious everywhere you look. We're very fortunate to have such a high-quality facility in our sub-region,” she said.

The Committee also discussed a joint Mental Health Service Plan and future Clinical Service Planning. They celebrated the positive benefits that collaboration between the service providers has delivered to ensure local services are able to be provided to local consumers.

New Bass Coast Health Chair, Mr Ian Thompson, shared the excitement after the tour.

“The original sub-regional clinical services plan that was undertaken in 2016 provided a very important foundation for our collaboration,” he said.

“Since that plan, Bass Coast Health has worked hard to increase its service offering and funding to become a true sub-regional health service. Bass Coast Health will continue our efforts to grow our sub-regional services so that community members from the Bass Coast and South Gippsland shires can receive care locally wherever possible.”
