Patients of Bass Coast Health (BCH) and their families have been touched by the generous donation of bags, hand-made by the members of the Grantville branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA).
The bags were initially given to the families of Palliative Care patients when they pass away and contained their loved one’s possessions. A pocket sewn on the front of the bag also has information for families about formalities to attend to upon the passing of a relative.
The program was so successful that it has expanded throughout BCH, with bags now given to patients in our Dialysis, Armitage House Sub-Acute service and Integrated Care Unit cancer service, as well as Social Work clients.
Grantville CWA Branch Vice-President Faye Tuchtan said, “Our members are so proud to be able to help our local health service and have decided to make this an ongoing project.
“For the last three years we have also been making one of our annual donations to the Integrated Care Unit.
“We are keen to give to the health service because we know that, individually, we all will likely need its services in some way.”
The CWA also wishes to acknowledge Wonthaggi Fabric and Beads’ significant donation of a large quantity of fabric towards the bag project.
