Bass Coast Health (BCH) has welcomed the newest recruits to its Nursing and Midwifery teams, who were attracted by the supportive culture and career opportunities on offer.
Our new Graduate Registered Nurses and Graduate Midwives will undertake six-month rotations in our Emergency Department, Haemodialysis Unit, Kodowlinun Acute Ward, Sub-Acute and Maternity Unit.
The Graduates include locals as well as staff who have come from as far as Melbourne, Ballarat and Queensland.
They learnt about BCH through our social media and meeting our team at the Australian College of Nurses Health Expo in Melbourne last year.
Bass Coast Health CEO Jan Child said, “We’re excited to welcome our newest intake of graduates and encourage everyone to make them feel welcome.
“They’re here for our 12-month Graduate Program, with the hope they will continue on to participate in our Pathway to Practice and Transition to Specialty Practice programs moving forward.
“We are a teaching hospital and aim to provide the most positive learning environment so that junior staff want to stay on and work here as senior staff. Our close relationship with several Universities helps our Nurses learn and grow.”
Graduate Midwife Bec Adams is from the Bass Coast.
“I did most of my placements throughout my study at Melbourne and Warragul, and now being at Wonthaggi means I’m close to home and close to family,” she said.
“It’s a great learning opportunity here too.”
Postgraduate Midwife Kyra Celebrine, from South Gippsland, has worked on our Medical/Surgical Ward since 2021.
“I love the team and the work culture, and being a part of the community,” she said.
Graduate Nurse Laura Lace from Yannathan near Lang Lang has returned to BCH after positive experiences during her placements.
“I did a couple of my placements at BCH throughout my study and I just found that I was really well supported,” she said.
“I would like to do postgraduate studies in Midwifery.”
Graduate Nurse Edel Miskella is from Melbourne but was familiar with the Bass Coast as her family has a holiday house at Cape Paterson.
“I had been to the Wonthaggi ED as a patient and everyone was so kind and I just got a good vibe,” she said.
“Everyone is just so supportive.”
