Former resident leaves a legacy to Griffiths Point Lodge

Vivian Reith, a former resident of Griffiths Point Lodge, left a wonderful legacy when she donated $50,000 towards new flooring at the San Remo residential aged care centre.

Before she passed away in 2022 at the age of 104, Mrs Reith donated $50,000 as a living bequest to Bass Coast Health (BCH), the operator of the Lodge, and actively participated in the discussions with residents where the colour and style of the flooring was chosen.

On the back of this donation, BCH was able to obtain further funding from the Victorian Government for a further $1 million renovation of the Lodge that included new painting and flooring throughout the interior, as well as new bathrooms for some rooms. The works were completed recently, having being delayed by the COVID pandemic.

Mrs Reith’s daughter Miranda Sage said her mother loved living at Griffiths Point Lodge.

“She considered all the staff here her family. There was a real sense that this was her home because of the love and care that she had from all of the staff. It’s a special place,” she said.

BCH CEO Jan Child said the staff and residents were most appreciative of the generous donation.

“Thank you to Vivian for facilitating this donation. We know we provide the very best of care, but we also recognise that our infrastructure here is tired, and to get this support from our community is just wonderful!” she said.

Members of Mrs Reith’s family were welcomed to a morning tea at Griffiths Point Lodge to celebrate this bequest.
