Celebrating our fabulous Cancer Nurses!

News

On Cancer Nurses Day on 15 August, Bass Coast Health (BCH) is inviting the community to pay tribute to the wonderful Nurses who provide cancer care to patients from across Bass Coast and South Gippsland.

BCH cares for cancer patients at the L. Rigby Cancer Centre at Wonthaggi Hospital, where patients receive chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and can consult Medical Oncologists, Haematologists and a Radiation Oncologist.

All this without the need – in most cases – for patients to travel further afield for consultations and treatment.

Our amazing Nurses are essential to the care of cancer patients as they offer them empathy, support and expert clinical advice.

Cancer patient Fiona Lavis has been receiving treatment for cancer at Wonthaggi Hospital since May and is grateful for her Nurses.

“The Nurses just make it a calm space here. As a patient, you’re under a lot of stress already and it’s absolutely fabulous here,” she said.

“The Nurses are friendly and they’re really efficient. They handle everything so well.”

Registered Nurse Hayley Weaver sees her role as an honour.

“I like helping people when they are at their most vulnerable and providing reassurance in tough times,” she said.

Registered Nurse Jyoti Sharma described her role as personally rewarding.

“I love being able to help cancer patients because I feel good when they are feeling good, and I love being able to make their journey easier,” she said.
