Booster COVID doses now available

News

COVID vaccine boosters are now available for people aged 18 or over who had their second COVID vaccination more than six months ago.

A booster dose helps prevent waning immunity against COVID-19 and will help to reduce the severity of illness and incidence of hospitalisation among those people who contract COVID in our community.

“While we have such a high rate of vaccination in the Bass Coast community, with more than 95 per cent of eligible people having one dose and 91.4 per cent two doses, we must make sure our efforts so far do not go to waste,” Bass Coast Health CEO Jan Child said.

“A booster dose is important for us to all to give us ourselves the best opportunity to be protected against COVID-19.”

People are also able to receive a booster dose if they have completed an initial vaccination course overseas with a COVID-19 vaccine recognised by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Pfizer is the preferred vaccine as a booster dose and can be safely administered regardless of which COVID-19 vaccine people received previously.

Everyone can walk-in to the Community Vaccination Clinic at the Wonthaggi Town Hall for their booster, or make an appointment online https://portal.cvms.vic.gov.au or phone 1800 675 398.
