During Perioperative Nurses Week from 10-16 November, Bass Coast Health (BCH) is celebrating the skilled and expert Nurses who are helping to bring quality surgical services to the people of the Bass Coast and South Gippsland.
These amazing BCH Nurses are with patients throughout their surgical journey, starting with their visit to the Elective Surgery Access Unit at Wonthaggi Hospital, where they ensure patients are fully informed about their procedure and are well enough to have it.
They also welcome patients to Theatre, ensuring they’re feeling as relaxed as can be, are there by patients’ sides during surgery and monitor patients during recovery after surgery. They’ll even contact patients once they are home to ensure they are progressing well.
Perioperative Services Manager at BCH, Brylie Wilson said Perioperative Nurses Week was a time to reflect on the incredible impact Perioperative Nurses make in the world of healthcare.
“We are the unseen profession that facilitates excellent, specialised care to patients during a time when they are at their most vulnerable,” she said.
“This special week is a reminder to acknowledge and celebrate all the amazing work we do, together as a team.”
The theme of the week is U.N.I.T.E.: Unify – bring your team together; Novice – mentor a novice nurse; Inspire – inspire improvement and innovation; Talk – it's OK to talk; and Exhale – take time to breathe out.
